How do you change the batteries in the geo trax Christmas train?

There are 3 AAA batteries in the second car, the one with the red button on top. On the rear of the car there is a compartment. It has 2 philips screws on the green door which swing upward when unscrewed. Took us 20 minutes to find this unmarked door.
