You can not add port numbers to lap tops that use fiber optics. Mostly because laptops don't use fiber optics.

How do you get internet from your laptop to your home computer?

A laptop computer can connect to a network, including the Internet, by plugging in a cable or by using wireless network technology.Just like a cordless telephone You have the base plugged into a wall and you have your telephone you can walk around the same way as a Laptop-----------------------you can use a wireless router, or install a wireless PC card. You can get a wireless reciver to connect to wireless networks also. You can also buy a Mobile Broadband stick, but the top-ups cost a lot when you think about it in comparison to other internet accessing methods.

I would love to get a laptop for myself to free up the computer for the family while I do my online class work, we were told we would not be able to have wireless internet due to not having cable. I don't want to waste money on a laptop if it won't work.?

is there any class room classes? It is possible to buy cable internet access, and a wireless router, without paying for cable TV--if that's not an option, though, there are still ways that you could get wireless internet access on your laptop. An increasing number of universities offer free wireless access all over campus, and most offer it at least in high traffic areas like libraries and student unions. So do many coffee shops, cafes, schools, and public libraries. If there's a location like that near your home, it might be worthwhile for you to purchase a laptop, even without in-home internet access.

What are some wireless internet providers?

There is no best wireless laptop provider. Wireless capability is a feature included in most new laptops, but they would all use either 802.11g or 802.11n. The best wireless you can get built into a new laptop now is 802.11n (or just wireless n). You will get the most speed and range with the N. If by provider you are talking about wireless broadband cards for laptops, the best bet would probably be AT&T

Choosing A Wireless Internet Device For Laptops?

The mobility that a laptop provides is enhanced when the computer is able to connect wirelessly to the Internet. There are several mechanisms that can be used to create a wireless connection. Most modern laptops come with a built-in wireless networking card. This chip that is located inside of the laptop is able to send and receive signals through any wireless connection that the user has access to in the immediate area. Laptops that do not have a wireless networking card can use other peripheral devices to connect. Some laptops have a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) slot along the side of the unit. This is a slot that can accept a PCMCIA wireless networking card. These cards can be connected to the laptop and then used to connect to a wireless signal. Some cards come with antennas although most rely on internal fractal antennas that are similar to the type used in cell phones. These cards tend to be more powerful than other wireless peripherals because they are able to draw more energy from the motherboard. There are a number of different universal serial bus (USB) wireless receivers that can be purchased and then plugged directly into a USB port on the computer. The quality and price of these units can vary greatly. Some USB wireless adapters are designed to be small and convenient while others are made to maximize download speeds and connection ranges. These are a very good option for people who have more than one laptop in need of a wireless receiver. There are certain areas where wireless signals are very rare or where wireless services are just not available. One option that a laptop owner can use in these instances is a mobile internet receiver. This is a small unit that closely resembles a wireless USB receiver. The difference is that the signal that is being received is coming from satellites through the same channels that are used by cell phone signals. This can be a very useful option for people who are traveling or individuals who must use the Internet from different locations throughout the day.
