Although it’s not an exact science, there are a few facial expressions and reactions that could indicate when someone is lying, according to FBI agent Mark Bouton. These giveaways include:
It's when they are trying to avoid answering direct questions.
Taking charge of your relationships ensure that your friends and family don't try to take advantage of you. Always be informed.

You can tell if someone is lying or not with a few giveaways, etc. Giveaways include fiddling, blushing, and going extremely quiet. Another way, this is not a giveaway because they can't control it, is that their pupils will go smaller if they are lying but will go larger if they are telling the truth.
he/she will start biting nails or lips
he/she will repeat some word over like "i know" I didn't i swear"
he/she might blink more or less than usual
he/she will try defending themselves by comparing to other people
he/she will get VERY defensive as soon as you even ask them "what happened" or interrogate them.
he/she will say "it wasn't me"
this might be hard to do: you need to check there pulse on either there wrist or neck, if it is fast, they are lying or they are scared they will get caught.
Do not interrogate him/her if he/she is playing a game or texting or doing anything they are very focused on this is a great chance for them to pretend they know nothing.
I know all of this cause i was a bad liar once too and im a great detective.
Hope this helps
Some signs that someone may be lying include avoiding eye contact, fidgeting, inconsistencies in their story, and defensiveness when questioned. However, it's important to remember that these signs are not always accurate indicators of lying and may vary from person to person. It's best to consider the context and the individual's behavior patterns before drawing conclusions.
Here are some things you can do to tell if someone's lying:
Watch their eyes. ...
Keep an eye out for rapid blinking. ...
Count how long someone closes their eyes. ...
Pay attention to the direction they look. ...
The key is in what they're trying to recall. ...
Bunched skin beneath and wrinkles beside the eyes indicate a real smile.
You can tell if a person is lying if they have a guilty look on their face. Also, try to look in their eyes. You will know if they are guilty or not. Most of the times, when a person is lying, they try to change the subject and look somewhere else besides you.You can also identify by their expressions or sumtimes their voice are cracked when they are telling any lie.
A fancy word for lying without fear of getting caught is fabrication. The journalist left his job in disgrace after being exposed as a serial fabricator. Related medical terms are pathological lying, confabulation, and mythomania, each with its own distinctions. Lying without consequences is lying with impunity. When can a politician lie with impunity? When most people tell a lie it is to avoid an expected consequence of being truthful.
A lot of lying stems from lack of personal responsibility and from fear of others' reactions. Learning to say to yourself, "Yes, I'm responsible for this action or thought and it's okay" will help you not be afraid to tell the truth. If you are wrong, admit it. If you did harm, fix it. If you're ashamed to tell the truth, stop doing what makes you ashamed. Act with dignity and inner strength and you won't have to lie. i recently split up with my girlfriend because of my compulsive lying, it was over small things but she could not take anymore. I want to win her back but i need to prove to her that i can stop lying...does anybody have an answer...please? Where did lying begin? According to the bible, Lying began in Genesis 3V1-10. Lying came from the devil, when he persuaded Eve to eat from the forbidden tree by twisting what God had said. If you want to worship the devil- go ahead!, but you cannot say that you are worshipping God and proclaim to be a Christian. One of the commandments says 'thou shalt not bear false witness'. God does not like a lying tongue and those that lie will perish! Lying is a sin unto God . In Luke , 'the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy, but the Lord wants us to live life more abundantly. If you value your life and you are a compulsive liar- this is the time to stop. Lying can destroy and eventually take you life. 1st Samuel Chapt1v1-18 - the story of how the Amalekite killed Saul (the Anointed One). Because the Amalekite wanted to gain favour from David, he lied and said that he killed Saul, while in fact Saul fell on his own sword. Because the Amalekite lied to David - David killed him. Whether you are a Christian or a non believer, lying is a sin unto God and to everyone else. You can not only lose the ones that care about you and love you, but you can also lose you life because you have lied with an intention to deceive.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, and other mental health personnel use the term 'compulsive lying' when they refer to people who cannot control their lying, that is, people who feel compelled to lie and are aware that they are lying. Therefore, compulsive lying implies impaired ability to control it. The term 'compulsive lying' is not a diagnosis. It is a behavior or a symptom associated with a number of mental disorders [for example, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder]. The term "confabulation" is used to describe lying or invention when the person who is lying is not aware that they are lying. To be more specific, confabulation is treating a fantasy as a fact, without awareness that fantasy has replaced fact."
