The term "safe sex" does NOT cover Birth Control- but is directed at preventing the spread of HIV (AIDS). Condoms CAN provide SAFER sex, but condoms DO fail -some studies show a failure rate of about 12%. If you are having sexual intercourse, condoms (when ALWAYS used and used correctly) can significantly reduce potential exposure to most STDs. However, the only TRUE safe sex is to have sex only in a mutually monogamous relationship (with only one other person, that also only has sex with you, and both of you do not have an STD.)
