Contrary to previous answer, police officers do not have a computer data base showing WHEN a gun was made. (Retired police officer here) In some cases, the manufacturer has records, or collectors have compiled records, showing the year a gun was made. Sometimes, this is easy to find- Remington marked rifle and shotgun barrels with a letter code that can be researched. Ruger and Browning have historical data available on their website. Marlin lever action rifles used a letter prefix to the SN. However, for many firearms, there is no historical data available- companies closed, records lost in disasters, etc. To complicate this, many rifles and shotguns never HAD a serial number- they were not required by US law until 1968. My collection includes 4 of the Remington 550-1 rifles- none of them have ever had a serial number.
See if a book has been published on the company that made it
Depends on the make: Colt,Remington, etc. TRY furnishing the makers name, the model, caliber and serial number and you MAY just find out when it was made...........................
serial number 28402
You can find out @ when it was made/shipped and other data depending on what, if anything , has been published by the company.
Not possible. There is more than one gun with the same serial number, some guns were made with NO serial numbers, and data does not exist to translate SN to make/model.
Serial number and/or features.
Usually not possible. More than one gun can have the same serial number.
Serial number 264108 was made in 1924,serial number 185869 was made in 1916,serial number 33807 was made in the year 1903.I hope that you find this informative.
If your Colt Stagecoach was made from 1965 - 1968 it will not have a serial number.
Record the serial number then contact the company. Using the serial number they can tell you the year it was made.
The serial number.
