The first thing to remember is that every time the US FDA revises their dietary recommendations, Americans get fatter. So apparently the FDA's suggestions for low-fat high-carb diets are causing more harm than good.

Gary Taubes has a couple of books recommending high-protein (and high-FAT) diets with low-CARBS that have apparently been quite successful; you might try one of them.

But no matter what kind of food you eat, you'll get fat - and STAY fat - if you eat too much or exercise too little. Start walking! Walk a LOT, EVERY day. Don't spend too much time sitting.
