They are not! The only way they could be is if the tattoo artist is not using clean equipment (needles etc) otherwise tattoo's are perferctley safe providing you give them the proper after care.

They could, however, be harmful to your career, if a prospective employer does not like tatoos.

Tattoos can have a few dangers. If you are planning on getting a tattoo, you should make sure that the shop is clean and the artist uses clean new equipment for each new tattoo.

- Used or unsanitary equipment can cause terrible infections.

- A tattoo must be properly taken care of; clean face cloths or towels, unscented soap (ex: goats milk), and products such as vitamin E (capsules, to prevent cross contamination).

- Cross contamination can cause a nasty infection. Don't let anybody touch your fresh tattoo, and be sure to keep the area clean.

- If a tattoo is too deep it can cause scarring or blood poisoning.

- Too shallow, the ink will fade quickly.
