To make your perfect swimmable monofin, first you have to buy 1 pair of swimming flippers x2 your size, so that they last longer. (Ex: Your size: 4, Monofin size: 6), then buy waterproof ducktape or thick strong tape. You can get all of these supplies at Wal-Mart and other local stores. Then your ready to start monofinin'!

Step 1: Take your pair of flippers and hold them tightly together.

Step 2: Take the ducktape and almost completely cover them in ducktape. Keep wrapping the tape around and around until it's about 4-5 inches from the bottom, and some inches from the top, (depending on your size).

Step 3: Try out your monofin and if the tape is coming up, don't put anymore tape on, since that'd defeat the purpose. The monofin will just sink to the bottom. Instead, take the tape off and then re-wrap it tighter.

Step 4: This is the last testing. Try out your monofin to make sure it's perfectly good underwater. If it's tearing apart (with the tape) a little make sure to keep re-wrapping the tape you currently have, or put new tape on then try it again.

After these steps are done, enjoy your new monofin! :)

How do you swim in a monofin?

To swim in a monofin at first, you must be supervisioned. To get it on, put your legs together at the edge of the pool your first swimming in. Put the monofin on by slipping your feet in of course. Then slip into the pool. Your first experience will be frightening for some people, thinking they might drown. (They won't), but for most people it will be super cool because monofins give you a "lift of relief" while swimming. To swim like a mermaid you have to bend your knees, while propelling your arms like your swimming regularly. That's how you swim in a monofin!

How do you make a mermaid monofin?

get a pair of shoes and trace them side to side on a sheet of paper. around that make a drawing of a mermaid fin. around the edges of the mermaid fin only, cut it out. now take a sheet of plexiglass, large enough to fit the sketch on, and using sharpie draw around the stencil you created. cut out the sheet of plexiglass in the shape of the mermaid fin. once that is done look at the sketch. comparing to it take a pair of sandals and glue it in the same spot as you put it. super waterproof glue it to that spot. now you have a monofin.

Do you need a mermaid tail mono fin to swim?

Monofins can have advantages in swimming efficiency for freediving. Monofins are also commonly used in underwater orienteering, a scuba based sport where fast swimming is essential. However, divers in this sport hold the scuba tank in their hands in front of them, not in a harness on their back like a recreational scuba diver. When the tank is worn on the diver's back, it interferes with the traditional monofin's function in a way that tends to negate the fin's advantages. Furthermore, a traditional monofin will induce body pitching that will sometimes result in the diver getting hit on the back of the head by the tank valve. A new type of monofin that uses a hydrofoil instead of the traditional flexible fin blade has succeeded in solving these issues and can be used with standard scuba equipment. Little to no body-pitching, and very efficient thrust production solve the monofin issues with scuba and provide advantages over bi-fins for swimming speed and reduced air consumption. See here the DOL-Fin X-15 monofin being used with scuba. See the related link for further information.
