The breech is the rear of the barrel, where a cartridge would be loaded. The muzzle is the front end of the barrel. When fired, a bullet is driven up the barrel, and out of the muzzle.

To load pellets into a Marksman Repeater, first, make sure the gun is not cocked and the safety is engaged. Open the breech by pulling it back until it locks into place. Place a pellet into the breech, skirt first, and then push the breech closed until it locks. Finally, disengage the safety and aim the gun in a safe direction before firing.
Barrel length is measured from the bolt face to the end of the barrel.
That the barrel (not the gun, the BARREL) was made in June 1944. Posibbly an M1 Garand, or an 1903 Springfield?
