Find a gunsmith or contact the company and ask for a owner's manual. place a want ad, check local gun shows, the library.
On the right hand side of the gun, just above the trigger guard, is a switch, if you look closely you can read the word "disassembly" with an arrow pointing to the front of the gun. You will have to work the slide until a groove is above the switch allowing you to push it forward. Once you have moved the switch pull back the slide and let it fall, repeat this motion until the top of the gun, action/barrel begins to separate from the grip. You should then be able to pull the parts apart.

One does not field-strip a Colt detective special. Any repairs or adjustments should be left to a qualified gunsmith.

There is no "field stripping" per se. Open the action and clean with rod/brushes/patches.
