Tomatoes are naturally gluten free. If there is anything added to it like seasoning, the seasoning may not be, but if its just the tomato then you are good to go.
NOTE:
Always wash fruits and vegetables well. Gluten is often used as a preservative dusted on top. Also, sometimes a wax is put on to make them look 'shiney' and more attractive. This wax might also have gluten.
ALSO - tomato paste often contains gluten (even though it doesn't say it). So be
careful of tomato sauces or canned tomatoes. Always check with the manufacturer if your not sure.
They do not contain gluten per say. But, the protein in them can be a problem. I had to go off tomatoes after going gluten free. They were causing the same symptoms as the gluten. This was also the case with peanut butter. Sherri
Tomato purée may contain gluten if it is produced in a facility that produces other products containing gluten. It is known as cross-contamination which can severely harm individuals with Celiac! So be careful and by products with the gluten free label! Otherwise, you could be exposed to gluten even if it is just tomatoes in case of its being processed in a facility that also produces gluten products and it’s getting cross-contaminated!
