A PDA and a laptop computer share many of the same features, yet they are quite different. A PDA is outstanding for its light weight and portability. The laptop is portable, but is heavier and somewhat more cumbersome.
A PDA is lightweight - more so than the laptop.
The PDA has much less memory.
Another advantage of the small PDA memory is that you have less to sort through when you want to open a program or look up a file. The laptop holds so many files that it takes awhile to find the one you want and bring it up. So, it is a matter of speed versus volume.

I, personally, consider the iPad to be a glorified PDA. The (probably 'ex' by now) Director of Sales, Australia for Samsung also does along with many other consumers.
A number of reviewers have noticed the fact that the iPad is little more than a larger version of the iPhone.
Many reviewers have given it good reviews. Apple said it was 'brilliant'. Even Microsoft have congratulated Apple on it.
I still can't get past the problem of it, like the iPhone having no more functionality than a good 3g phone other than the fancy interface.
The iPhone is a pda aka a smart phone.
The HP PDA is not a rival to the Iphone because they are to different products. The Iphone is just that, a cell phone, capable of playing music video apps etc. While the HP PDA is a PDA. For the two to compete, they would have to be the same kind of product.
The iPhone is a great PDA, and can save you the hassle of keeping two devices in your pocket.

At present, it is the iPod touch and/or iPhone.
The term PDA phone has fallen into disuse with these devices now simply being called smartphones. Popular phones include the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Droid Razr.
Sprint offers yearly subscription plans for almost all of the PDA phones it sells. These phones include the iPhone, Blackberry, Samsung, Sony and HTC.
Blackberry PDA's where a leader in their release and the monthly plan on these can be very pricy but the features are great. Other phones like the Iphone have competitive features and other phones like samsung are offering similar blackberry features at a slightly cheaper price.
The PDA market is virtually non-exisitent now with the advent of smart phones. Smart phones combine all the features of a PDA, a cell phone and the internet. Some examples are the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7. If you really don't need the cell phone part, an iPod Touch makes a great PDA (even though it is not marketed as such).
No, however you can use Skype on PDA phones with wifi internet and do free texting. The Apple iPhone 2.0 may soon allow for video conferencing
