The effect of over heating on a laptop as with any computer will impact on the processor and the motherboard it's mounted on. The source of some overheating is not the board or processor but instead the power supply . Overheating will damage the circuits and cause fires if it is not traced.

Some laptops do overheat very easily within ten minutes. Depends on the type of laptop you have and the type of cooling system you have keeping it from overheating. Most laptops do not overheat especially ones that are higher in price.
