Pretty sure it was Mossberg. Take a look at a list of Mossberg shotguns. I'm sure you will find one that looks like your Western Field.

I have and old Western Field 20 ga deer gun and it's designed just like my new Mossberg 500 12 ga. The safety on both guns are on the top and the pump action is very similar. So my guess is that Mossberg made the western field. If you have transposed letters and you meant XNH, this was the Montgomery Ward code for Nobel guns.
I have one of the Western Field 38 and after some searching on the internet I found a sight with OLD mossberg catalogs on it. http://home.epix.net/~damguy/catalog.htm it looks like mine is a Mossberg Model 35 with No.3 Peep Sight and and the mulit post ramp sight. I think the No.3 peep was a lower cost option than the micro-click. Mossberg did in fact make that rifle for Montgomery Wards.
The Westerm Field 550 looks like a Mossberg 500, so I would start there looking for a plug. A good gun shop might have one, a gunsmith could make you one, or gunpartscorp.com may have one on the shelf.
You can try checking with gun shops, outdoor sporting goods stores, or online retailers that specialize in firearm accessories and parts. Additionally, you may find magazines for the Western Field M822A 22 Magnum WMR through websites like GunBroker, MidwayUSA, or Brownells.
It is a Mossberg 500AB and they made it for Western Auto under their revelation name. So all 500 Mossberg parts are compatible with the gun. I hope this answer helps you with your question.
Ward Western rifles from what i have read online (and i have one i am looking for a magazine clip for also) were made for Montgomery Wards by various manufacturers of which one was Mossberg. Check out some old Mossberg models and see if it looks like one of them. I'd swear my Ward Western looks 90% like a Mossberg Model 144, especially when you put the action out of the stock, it is nearly dead on. I sent a pic into a Mossberg expert ( http://www.havlinsales.com ) who sells parts for old Mossbergs. Sorry, not much you can do for obscure 22's. Let me know if you ever find anything more for Wards Western 22's (post back here). My barrel is marked "70" i think. Where is yours marked "36"? Just found this after i posted it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Westernfield-36-Savage-521-22-Rifle-Stock_W0QQitemZ120161313930QQihZ002QQcategoryZ73951QQcmdZViewItem Looks like my stock and it say Western Field 32 / Savage 521, my guess is now it is a Savage 521 cousin. I have a Western Field Mo #36 D single shot 22. This rifle was made in the 1930s.It has been in my family since new.I am of the opinion it was a mossberg but i cant prove it.I am searching for a bolt for this one ! Any help is appreciated.thanks.
It was made by Mossberg & Sons out of New Haven ,Conn.......I own one that I bought in 1980....after all these years it is still my favorite gun........keep it like new and it will just increase in value....Tom
Montgomery Wards did not make guns, they were made by various companies like Mossberg, Savage, Stevens and Hi Standard. Who made guns /shotguns for JC Penney, Sears, and Western Auto along with guns for Wards. The brand name were put on the guns for the stores to sell.
There is no serial number, the rifle was made before serial numbers were used, Mossberg did not commonly use serial numbers, when they did use them it was like for the model 44's etc. as military trainers.
I tried to find that 15KX, but it doesnt seem to exist. Could this gun possibly be a bolt action shotgun with a clip? If so, its very possible that its a Western Field 151X and the number 1 looks like a "K". The Western Field 151X was made by Kessler Arms in Silver Creek, NY. The shotgun was only made from 1951 to 1953. The Gun Parts Corporation in Hurley NY may have parts and more information for you.
