Absolutely not. He has just moved on to a new chapter in his life. Relationships change as do people. We all need to learn this because it will make life so much simpler.
ANSWER:
An old man who have relationship with different women is not lonely, but his not satisfied with just one woman. He wants to make sure that if the woman he have can't satisfy him, he knows that he can find someone that will. And in my own opinion when a man is a player like this one, his only thinking about himself not others..

Plain and simple this young man does not respect young women. He cheated on you; broke up with you and thankfully his new girlfriend cheated on him so he may now get the drift of how terrible it feels to be cheated on, but it is highly unlikely this will make him a better person. He's in between girlfriends and lonely at this point. You would be wise not to go on that run for his training for cross country skiing as he would only be using you.
