Wearing a condom when she is on the pill will help prevent the transmission of sexual disease and lower the chance of conception. The pill does not prevent STD's. No form of Birth Control is 100% effective except for abstinence.
If she is not on birth control you have to wear a condom or there is a risk for pregnancy. The best way to protect yourself is if she is on the pill and you wear a condom.

You really shouldn't miss ANY pills. But if you miss one pill it is ok to take this pill as soon as you remember or you can thro this pill away and make your partner wear a condom for the next 2 weeks.

If you're sober, always wear a condom, and if possible make sure she is on the pill. If not sober well... good luck with that.
When this happens, you need to use a condom for 7 days because you missed a pill. You could also take the morning after pill.
