I'm not sure if this is a joke. A person who is in need of the Heimlich Maneuver cannot speak -- I suppose they could nod. In any event, in most states there are Good Samaritan laws that protect people from lawsuit who are trying to help others in a medical emergency.

Implied consent applies to the unconscious patient - if the patient were conscious they would want your help.

Consent to give first aid must be obtained from every victim who is?

Conscious. An unconscious victim is assumed to want first aid assistance, since they are incapable of giving consent.Consent must be attained before a rescuer may touch a patient. Failure to do so can result in prosecution from the patient.Given consent - The adult, (18+), patient that is conscious can give consent directly but a parent or legal guardian must give consent for a conscious minor or a mentally handicapped patient.Implied consent - The unconscious patient can be helped without consent but a rescuer should ask / look for their next of kin first.

Can a doctor do a drug test without consent and is there a proper way to perform?

Doctors do nothing without consent, although it should be noted that an unconscious person, who is unable to either give or withhold consent, may be construed to give "implied consent" (that is, we may assume he or she would consent, if he or she were conscious). The second half of your question, is there a proper way to perform, is not clear. What kind of performance do you have in mind?

Do i need consent to perform the heimlich maneuver?

You do not have to be certified in CPR to try to help another. It is a good idea to be trained. You need to know when to use CPR as well as how to do it properly. Using CPR on someone who has a heartbeat can cause more damage than they already have. Plus, if you have a heartbeat but no breathing, you can use rescue breathing and save a life. Get the training.

What should you do for a conscious adult who is choking and cannot cough?

FIRST: Put some latex gloves on - this will protect your hands from HIV or hepititis, (two blood-born deseases), that could come out with the obstruction and/or vomitis. Gloves also make the patient aware that you are trained and can help. 1. Ask "Are you choking?" This rules out an alternate situation such as an allergic reaction. 2. Say "I know first aid, can I help you?" You must always obtain consent before treating a patient. 3. Stand behind the patient with your right foot just behind and between the patients legs. Landmark for the proper abdominal thrust position by sliding your hands down the patients sides until you feel the hip bones, then encircle the hips with your arms. The proper position is just below where your hands will meet here. 4. Hold your right hand against the abdomen in line with the navel, curl your fist (thumb should be against the patients body). Place your left hand behind your right to strengthen it. 5. Pull HARD, inward and upward simultaneously. (Abdominal Thrust) 6. Continue performing abdominal thrusts until the patient manages to make noise again (high-pitched wheezes don't count), or he/she goes unconscious. If he/she goes unconscious, **alert the Emergency Services**, provide first aid for the unconscious casualty (will most likely require CPR, with the addition of mouth checks before every ventilation).

If not, they should, because not all parents want to circumcise their sons.
