Not always. Colostrum can leak from your breasts at any time. Pregnancy or not. Hormone changing can make you leak a little big of colostrum. Some women will leak more then others, especially if they've already had children.
No, not every woman leaks colostrum during pregnancy. Some women do, some do not. It is different with each pregnancy as well. A woman might leak during her first pregnancy and not her second or she might leak during every pregnancy or never during any pregnancy. Either way is NORMAL.
Yes
She should take a pregnancy test. All three of those are symptoms of pregnancy.
The fluids can leak slowly or gush. If you are leaking fluids you should call your OB immediately.
Most women do not start leaking breast milk in early pregnancy, though it certainly is possible; however, the question states that pregnancy is not necessarily present. There are other possible reasons to be concerned about this, and it would be best to see a physician to not only have a more accurate pregnancy test done (if being pregnant is a possibility) but also to have a test on the level of the hormone responsible for lacation (called prolactin) and to have a breast exam performed to check for any concering lumps. Actually you can leak breast fluid very early on in a pregnancy but it isn't breas milk it is called colstrum it's before the breast milk and is very common. Also sore breasts. MY DOCTOR told me that. bea..........i would like to know the answer to that myself i have been leaking colostrum from my breast for awhile, havent had a period in four months, ive had a few systems but i never really got sick or anything with my others, and have taken about 40 pregnancy test even from the health unit and all negative. but i have problems with blood and home test working on me. ive been pregnant 3 times so far and has happened everytime so far. ive been to the hospital recently and all he told me is i don't need a period and if i skip another take another test and if still negative ill no when i pop out a baby. where i live that's how doctors are nothing is serious to them. and to get an appointment around here is impossible and nobody takes new patients. and im only 24 yo.
If this is not a first pregnancy it is not abnormal to leak colostrum for the whole 9 months. If this is your first pregnancy generally you will start noticing a clear to cloudy yellowish liquid called colostrum during the second trimester. If you are planning on breast feeding this is the first food your baby will get. It is easily digested and full of antibodies your baby needs to boost his immune system. In the mean time it is a natural moisturizing agent for your nipples. Gently messaging it on your nipples helps get them ready for nursing. A dark or bloody discharge is never normal and should be reported to your doctor or midwife ASAP.
No, breasts leak in the latter part of pregnancy.
