Not really. A gunshot wound can strike anywhere, and the type of injury determines what happens next. Gunshots rip through flesh and shatter bones. If struck in the arm, you'll probably make it. In the heart, probably not. There are all different types of head wounds, from a glancing blow to the skull, to an exit wound the size of a lemon.

True, overall health, strong immune system, age and physical condition are factors in the recovery of all injuries. With gunshot wounds, a little luck can also help. So can body armor, if you're expecting to be involved in a combat situation. But if a bullet is taken the wrong way, or at the wrong angle, distance or velocity, physical condition and increased muscle mass will not save you.

What is the process by which organisms with desirable traits are more likely to survive?

I'm not sure what your question was, but I'm thinking you meant "WHY DO organisms with favourable traits have a better chance of surviving?". That's what I've answered below. Creatures which are better adapted for their immediate, local environment have a better chance of surviving because they are more able to overcome adverse situations specific to that environment. For example, if a creature eats a specific type of food and that food is only found at the top of tall bushes, a favourable trait would be being able to reach that food. Having these traits not only means that they have a better chance themselves of surviving, but it means that they have a better chance of living long enough to reproduce, thus passing on their genes. A prospective mate may recognise favourable traits and choose one mate over another so that her offspring may inherit those favourable traits and will have a better chance of survival.

How do insecticides force evolution?

Widespread use of insecticides can lead to the evolution of insecticide resistance. In any population of insects there will be genetic variation ie individual insects are not identical; just like humans there are all different. Some individual insects will be more resistant to an insecticide than others. When an insecticide is used the individuals which are resistant will have a better chance of surviving. They will then pass on their resistance genes to their offspring, which will in turn have a better chance of surviving. In this way the resistance genes will spread through the population. This is an example of natural selection in action. See www.evolution.berkeley.edu/
