Children often have toys because it is socially accepted that toys socialise and entertain children, but don't have the same effect on teenagers. Teenagers tend to spend more time on media-related items, such as TV, internet and books as they have spent some years of childhood building these skills that allow them to do so. In some African societies, children don't have toys. Most children don't even go to school, and work so they can provide for the family. Some children don't even have toys in Britain's modern society, as victims of child abuse or members of extremely religious families.
