∙ 13y agoNot all drugs require increasing amounts to achieve the same effect; this phenomenon is most commonly associated with opioids and some stimulants. The "downer" effect, or withdrawal symptoms, occurs when the drug has cleared the system and the body has to readjust to its absence, often resulting in symptoms opposite to the drug's effects.
A drug is a substance that has a physiological effect when introduced into the body, altering its function or structure. Drugs can be used for medicinal purposes to treat illness, or recreationally for their psychoactive effects.
Histamine is produced by the body in response to allergens, and antihistamine drugs work by blocking the action of histamine in the body.
An example of a substance given to neutralize unwanted effects of drugs is activated charcoal, which can help absorb and eliminate medications or toxins from the body. Another example is naloxone, used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose by blocking opioid receptors in the brain.
Chemotherapeutic drugs are substances that are designed to kill cancer cells. These drugs work by targeting fast-dividing cells, which includes cancer cells, but can also affect normal cells in the body.
In general use, "substance" refers to a particular kind of matter with uniform properties. In philosophy, it can refer to an individual concrete entity that can exist independently. In the context of addiction, substance refers to drugs or alcohol that are abused or misused.
Yes, they are the same class of drugs.
Absolutely. They just happen to be legal ones.
depending on the drug you use depends on the effect. for example, when you use marijuana your emotions become intensified, your heart rate becomes fast. a drug classified as an upper means you become excited and your heart rate becomes fater. drugs classified as a downer means you become relaxed, calm and a decreased heart rate.
It certainly can for a number of reasons. Firstly, if the substance is a stimulant or "upper" it will certainly cause a lack of sleep. Also, the addictive properties could be causing a physiological need for the substance resulting in the body craving it when attempting to sleep. Finally, when addicted to a substance we tend to spend a lot of time thinking about it. Therefore, we are psychologically fixated on the substance when trying to sleep. Technically it is also possible to have insomnia from a "downer" or depressant. In a low percentage of the population there is a paradoxal or reverse effect with drugs such as weed or Ativan.
No. cocaine is an upper and heroin is a downer. these drugs are like polar opposites.
A drug is a substance that has a physiological effect on the body so yes, the Ethanol in beer makes it a drug.Yes.

IU= international unit. This is a unit used to measure the activity (that is, the effect) of many vitamins and drugs. For each substance to which this unit applies, there is an international agreement specifying the biological effect expected with a dose of 1 IU. Other quantities of the substance are then expressed as multiples of this standard. This also means that this measurment is not based on sheer volume or weight of the substance, but rather the effect.
