One difference between a desktop and a laptop is that a laptop is portable while a desktop is stationary. Laptops are usually smaller and can run off of battery power while a desktop is bigger and has to be plugged in to work.

For starters, the "difference" should be obvious in the names. Laptop means well...a computer you sit in your lap. Desktop means a computer that rests on your desk. A laptop is a portable computer. they are small and compact...for more info...please Google laptops. A desktop is NOT portable....Google Desktops.
