On the lower tang behind the lever.
If you are seeing the Model 65 designation on the barrel, but the Model 1892 designation on the rear tang behind the hammer, what you have is a Model 1892 that has been rebarrelled with a Model 65 barrel. Not an uncommon conversion years ago, but tragic from a collector's standpoint. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Lyman is currently only producing the #2 tang sight, which is not designed for the Winchester 9422. Marble's makes a tang sight for the Winchester 9422. The LR version requires the 009812 sight and the 9422 Magnum requires the 009837 sight. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Your winchester model 71 rifle was made in the second year of production which is 1937.This also means that you have the long tang version of the model 71.
They did not SN# all the 1890 winchester 22 short because I also have one and it has not been removed
There is no such thing as a "model 702337". The number you list appears to be a serial number. The Model number will be stamped on the barrel, or on the upper tang behind the hammer.
It should be etched into the "Tang" on the underside, just behind the lever.
For the most part you can not. The vast number of the many and various Winchester Models were marked on either the upper tang or on the barrel as to which specific model they were. The serial number is used to determine the date of manufacture. Bert H.
On the vast number of the various Winchester models, the Model designation is stamped on the barrel, or on the upper tang. If you can tell me what type of action it has, I can point you in the right direction.
The age (or date of manufacture) can only be determined by the specific serial number stamped into the lower tang. Winchester manufactured the Model 1890 from November of the year 1890 through December of 1932. Bert H.
Winchester model 71, Serial number 9881 was built in 1937. This is the pre WWII long tang version which will command an extra premium provided it is all original.
