History would have you believe that all slaves were dumb and uneducated but this is NOT true. Many slavemasters had books laying around and slaves would sneak those books into their homes and read. Their were always at least one very educated slave who taught the rest of the slaves secretly. In addition, very few slavemasters were tolerable and allowed their slaves to give their masters ideas of inventions. The slavemaster would then steal the idea of his slave and make it his.
