You can not date the gun by the serial number. There is a one or 2 digit code stamped on the left side of the barrel right next ti where it joins the reciever, That code will give you the year of manufacture. Example:
TT=1948
UU=1949
WW=1950
XX=1951
YY=1952
ZZ=1953
A=1954
B=1955
etc...
