It can either be due to two things.
Firstly, it could be that your piercing has become infected. In this case, make sure you wash hands thoroughly with hot water and soap before touching it. Apply either warm salt water or tea tree oil around the piercing with a cotton bud twice daily for two weeks. Do not touch it more than necessary.
It could also be use to the quality of the bar itself. A low silver or sterling content can leave a mark around the piercing. If so, change to a higher quality bar, and the mark will eventually disappear.
