Colt made a small number of Colt Detective Specials with the 3 inch barrel. I had one and stupidly let it get away in a trade. My next door neighbor's wife has one her father gave her but sentimental value won't let me swap something for it. I have seen a late issue (3rd or 4th issue) in stainless steel with a shrouded 3 inch barrel on GunBroker.
If you have one, I'd be willing to talk about taking it off your hands.
A handgun that Colt made.

Check out Wikipedia under Colt Detective Special.
The standard barrel length of the Colt detective special was 2 inches although in the second & third series there were some 3 inchers produced.
what is the value of a 8 3/8 inch nickel plated colt trooper

Go online and type in "colt revoler grips". You should find everything from factory replacements, to custom grips made to fit your own hand. Prices from 2-3 dollars on ebay, to over $100 for custom grips.
100-150 USD
THE COST OF THIS VERY SPECIAL WEAPON IS CLOSE TO THE AMOUNT THAT YOUR MOM IS WORTH... SO ABOUT 1 cent or 1 penny
You will need to pay Colt for a historical letter. Value will depend on what the letter says and if it verifys that the pistol is in the same configuration as when it left the factory. 3" bbls were not that common. If the dents are in the metal, expect significant value reduction. If in the grips less, but, still some.
