Yes, you can, but it will be in manual mode only. Go and take a load of test shots to see which flash setting works best. That's a bonus with digital Photography , you can easily delete the bad shots from your card.
I think, at the moment, the top selling dslr is Nikon D3100. It has many great features and the price is also affordable.
Depends upon what you are looking for..a P520 is a bridge camera..and in no way can it be compared to a DSLR..and that's what the D3100 is. If you are an amateur, u might think about getting the P520, learn to play with the settings and then get a DSLR. However, the difference in price between the two isn't much and The D3100 is an entry level DSLR, which is quiet easy to handle. The only plus point that the P520 has over the D3100 is the 42x zoom..which is equivalent to 24-1000mm..where as with the D3100, you will only get a kit lens of 18-55mm..for a beginner telephoto lens u'v gotta spend some more money to get focal lengths of 70-300mm. Also with the bridge camera you can be complacent while traveling, where as a DSLR will require careful handling. But, purely on the basis of Picture Quality, which is the main component of a camera, the P520 is no match for the D3100. The Choice is yours now.

You can rent a Nikon DSLR camera off of the Nikon website, or looking at your local camera-selling stores. They sometimes allow you to rent it for a short period of time, but it is much easier to buy one.
Nikon dot com has a wide plethora of information about their DSLR cameras. You can compare features between the different cameras as well as price them.
Nikon D60 better dynamic range in the recorded images, plus newer processer.
