From October 1st 2015, it is illegal to smoke in car with children present in England and Wales. The law does not apply to convertible cars which have the top down, or to 17 year old drivers if they are smoking in their own vehicle and there are no other children present.
Scotland are planning to follow England and Wales by introducing similar legislation but they have not done so yet.
Northern Ireland have taken a 'wait and see' approach and have no plans yet to implement such a law.
Certain states have restrictions on adults smoking with minors present in the vehicle. The ones i know of are California (US) and British Columbia (Canada).
