UNLOADED rifles and shotguns may be sent by US Mail. If they are being sent across a state line to another person, they must go to a Federal Firearms License holder (dealer or collector) in that other state. You MAY legally mail a rifle of shotgun to yourself- say, for a hunting trip. HANDGUNS may only be mailed by a licensed dealer or manufacturer. You can research this at usps.com, in the Domestic Mail Manual. You ARE required to advise the Postmaster that your package contains a rifle or shotgun, they MAY require you to show it is not loaded, and there should be no markings on the exterior of the package to indicate that it is a gun.
