The recommended time to leave a lip piercing in is 6-8 months. However, these are not usually fully healed until after a year. If you have left the piercing out for a short period of time, chances are the hole has not fully closed. If this is the case then with some effort you can get the ring back through your piercing. However, if you have left it out longer (say 2-3 months) there is a high chance that you will have to go back to your studio and have it re-pierced.
