No, unfortunately the RIM Blackberry 7290 is not capable to play mp3 ringtones. I purchased one a few days ago and went to Verizon to check for certain and the customer service rep said, "Polyphonic ringtones only." Sorry, if this causes any disappointment, because it did for me:-(
