Generally, no. The carpet pad will have too much bounce causing the engineered hardwood (or even laminate) to break and split. That being said there are some thin felt carpet pads that could work, but I wouldn't recommend it.
I'm not sure why you are asking this question. If it's because you had carpet there and you are hoping to reuse your existing carpet pad, that is a big no no. The carpet pad will be uneven which can cause problems and worse than that, it will already be dirty with germs and potentially moisture and you could develop mold and/or odor issues.
Also, if your engineered hardwood is over concrete, you want the traditional laminate/hardwood underlayment which also has a moisture barrier.
This, of course, is assuming that you are doing a floating floor. If you are nailing or glueing than it's an even firmer no.
No, carpet pad is both taller and softer then pads meant for floating laminate and wood floors. No pad of any kind should be used on any other type of wood installation.
of corse you can! it's not common practice but if your floor is sound it should be fine
Mopping a wood floor with soap and water is deadly damage to the floor and certainly to the finish. Water should NEVER be used on wood. use a manufacturer approved floor cleaner and never mop or pour it on.
Tell me what magnasite is & I will tell you how to lay the floor...
If you have an engineered wood floor here are some tips for proper care. For a spill, clean up as soon as possible as they should not be exposed to moisture for very long. Sweep regularly to prevent the floor from scratches. Use a rug to help protect the floor.

Absolutely.
Engineered wood floor is essentially a thin wood veneer over a plywood substrate. It is much better than just a normal floor because it is more durable.
Floating Installation This method the floor floats over foam cushioned padding.

Yes, no problem.
I live on the second floor of a house and would love to have wood flooring. Is there some sort of padding that I can use that will muffle the sound of us walking so it isnt loud for the family on the first floor?

yes, but it will slide over the years so I would not
The kitchen floor is usually made of a harder material like tiles or wood, which provides less cushioning to absorb the impact when the egg lands. In contrast, a living room carpet has more padding and can absorb some of the shock, reducing the force applied to the egg. This difference in impact absorption is why the egg breaks on the kitchen floor but not on the living room carpet.
