(Coming from a girls perspective) Because they enjoy the attention without being awkward. It's called flirting. Guys and girls can tease each other without being called "serious" because they're not really being sweet to each other, they're flirting. It's an easy way to interact with a girl, and if a girl's teasing them it means she probably likes them.
