Can recovering cocaine addicts drink alcohol?

Basically no, Alcoholism is an allergic addiction, they cannot be moderated as you crave what you're very allergic to, also there's a Genetic component to it, plus most alcoholics don't think they are alcoholics and may be able to stop, but not for good. Best to go to the ALcoholics Anonymous site and answer the alcoholism questions or attend a local AA meeting.

I do not have the background to answer this question properly, however, I do have a thought (as my background is in psychology)... One problem that I can potentially see is that the taste association might make make it tempting to reach for the real thing. Associations with taste or smell can be strong. It may even cause the person to briefly feel a phantom sensation similar to how they felt when drinking alcohol... Just my thoughts... I'd be interested in hearing from a recovering alcoholic's point of view!

They can, but it is generally not a good idea. Alcohol is a depressant (with chronic use) and will tend to exacerbate cravings for a stimulant, such as cocaine, in order to counteract this effect. Thus, relapse to cocaine abuse and dependence would be more likely in the recovering cocaine addict (than for individuals without the genetic predisposition for substance abuse).
