possible, yes
You can't. The same serial number can appear on guns from different manufacturers and on different models from the same manufacturer.
That is impossible to answer. If we knew the manufacturer and model, the serial number MIGHT be useful to find additional information, but you cannot find the manufacturer by the serial number. A few manufactures have used a single serial number sequence through many models, but most have began each model with serial number 1, so the same number may appear on hundreds of guns from the same manufacturer. Before serial numbers were required, some makers used "block numbers" which would re-start at 1 each time it reached 1000 or 10000, so the same number could appear on several identical guns. Your gun can probably be identified if you will list all the other things written on it.
Not possible. There is more than one gun with the same serial number, some guns were made with NO serial numbers, and data does not exist to translate SN to make/model.
I HAVE THE SAME QUESTION. I WANT TO SELL MY GUNS, DUE TO A DISABILITY, BUT I CAN'T FIND THE SERIAL NUMBER ON MY FOX MODEL B. ANY HELP?
There are probably several guns with that serial number. Serial numbers are not unique to one single firearm - they often aren't even unique to one firearm from the same manufacturer. We'd need a lot more information to determine what type of firearm it is.
There is no way to tell with only a serial number. As surprising as it may be, there are multiple guns that can have the same serial number- different makes and models. If you give us a complete description, we may be able to help. Good questions= good answers.
the same as any other vehicle
Some guns had serially numbered magazines. Most did not. Without more information from you, we can't even guess. What gun???
Serial number will help identify the year made if it is a Browning. You can also do your own investigation by looking at other models being sold that are in the same condition as yours. Try the gunbroker.com or a periodical called "The Gun List" You can also reference the Blue Book of Gun Values which can be purchased on line at various retailers.
A serial number and a PAC number are not the same. A PAC number is used for banking and is always a six digit code.
Marlin Firearms Co. had only one series of serial numbers for all lever-action repeating rifles from 1883-1906; therefore serial numbers do not reflect the place of production or sequence number of a gun within a model. Sometimes a record shows two or even three guns with the same serial number from the same time period. Source: gunfighter.com
