Depends entirely on where your back yard IS- and the local laws.

If you shoot on your property at your property you will be fine.
If you only shoot your property, on your property you will be fine.
Trying to find an answer to this will drive you crazy. I also live in Calif. (See the #1 link below for the long answer) As for me. I never shoot in open view of the public. "IE front yard" however I do shoot in the back yard out of the view of the public. I always use a pellet trap. I own several air guns. Lets just say more than 20, BB guns and spring powered air rifles I shoot in the back yard. High powered (PCP) air rifles, These are the ones used for hunting large game, up to 50 caliber, I take to the range. Did you know that air rifles have a noise rating. See link # 2 below. Then click on the rifle and open the specifications to see the noise rating
Check with the police first.
I wouldn't
Typically a winchester model 1894 in 30-30caliber is a rifle with a 100-150 yard range limit to kill a deer size animal. This is limited to the cartridge remaining energy in foot pounds at that range.if you choose to shoot a model 1894 for plinking at the range then the shooting range is as far as you can shoot accurately.
Some ways to make fast cash in Texas without identification is to do yard work, babysitting, or have a yard sale.
