Silly baby needs to be head down for a normal delivery! If you are less than 30 weeks pregnant the baby will be in many positions before settling in head down. After 32 of 33 weeks it starts getting snug in there and the baby has less room to maneuver around. One of the reasons for a transverse lie may have to do with the ligament that supports the "pelvic girdle" Wearing a pregnancy belt or pregnancy support may help you to relax the ligament.
The best way to get a baby to turn on it's own is with gravity. There are some positions you can try that will encourage the baby to slide around on her own. (at the link)
Sitting straddled on a birthing ball a few times a day will encourage your pelvis to relax and open, do this just before you lie down on your back, feet resting on a chair, knees bent at 90 degrees. Relax and breathe deeply into your abdomen. Have your partner bring you a couple ice packs wrapped in a thin towel (or wrap a thin towel around a package of frozen veggies) placing one against the baby's head and another at her bum. At the same time put a warm pack across your lower pelvis. The idea is the baby will move away from the cold and towards the warmth. Do this a 2 or 3 times a day for 10 minutes or so at a time. (Don't put the ice pack directly against your skin.)
With your doctors OK, a brisk walk, where you exaggerate each step, swinging the weight from the top of one leg to the next. The idea is to expand the space of the pelvic floor.
If you have access to a swimming pool, in chest deep water try doing hand stands, this gives you gravity and the waters' pressure working with you. Do this 2 or 3 times each time you are in the pool.
There are techniques a knowledgeable chiropractor or acupuncturist can do also. Ask your doctor/midwife or childbirth instructor to refer you to a practitioner who does a good percentage of their practice with pregnant patients.
