I know I am real because:

1. I was conceived.
2. I was born; I took my first breath.
3. I have all parts a human being should have.
4. The State issued me an Official Birth Certificate.
5. At about a month old, I was baptized; I have a Certificate for that, too.
6. Our family doctor, who delivered me, had to certify he gave me immunizations-- they hurt; I cried; therefore, I am real. My doctor heard me cry; he knew I was real.
7. For First Grade, a school accepted my Birth Certificate -- so they believed I am real.
8. During High School, we took the ACT and SAT. Both are sticklers about identity. They accepted proof of my identity--I am real.
9. To get a Marriage License, the Clerk of Courts had me swear to being "me"; I am real.
10. When I married, they gave me a Certificate. They also reported my marriage to the Clerk of Courts. Now, everyone knew I am real, especially after the newspaper ran a story about my real wedding.
11. Even though I wasn't the center of attention, when I gave birth, the hospital made me prove who I was... I am as real as my child.
12. When I registered my child for school, they needed both of our documents!
13. I had to prove my identity before entering nursing school. Laws & all...
14. I had to prove my identity before taking my big State Board exams... Laws and all...
15. I had to prove my identity for every job I obtained.

Yep! There's lots more but... I do believe that I, by golly, am "real".

== == The idea of what is real and what is not is based upon a person's perception. You know that the events unfolding before your eyes at the movies are not real. You also know that the events of a theatrical presentation are fictional although the actors are real. You are usually aware of the fact that the events occurring at a particular moment in your life are not real only when you awaken from the dream/nightmare. Perhaps it is all a dream and nothing is real and when death comes I will be awaken from this dream to realize that as a soul I am real but this world is simply an illusion or Virtual Reality. Cogito ergo sum. I know I am real; you know you are real.
