The North Pole sits on frozen sea water in the Arctic Ocean -- there are no structures there.
The South Pole sits on 9,000 feet of ice -- on the continent of Antarctica -- and although there is a scientific research station there, it contains no 'shops'. No commerce is allowed on earth south of 60 degrees S.
The South Pole. Move in any direction from the South Pole and you are moving north.

The south pole of a magnetic compass is pulled towards the Earth's north magnetic pole, and away from Earth's south magnetic pole. Or towards and away the corresponding poles of any other magnet. Note that Earth's NORTH magnetic pole is close to the SOUTH pole.
