.223 Accurracy is more dependent on the shooter than the distance. For the average shooter it should be fairly accurate out to 300 meters in a good rifle. After 300 meters bullet drop and wind drift really take a toll on its small bullet. Best bullet for accuracy I've found is a 62 grain boat tail. Depending on barrel length, barrel twist and powder your results may vary. While very accurate in the right hands the killing power of the .223 when compared with other combat rounds is aggressively debated. I use mine for varmints and head shots on deer but I'd be hesitant to use it on anything bigger or for home defense. I'll take a .308 at distance and a 12 guage in close quarters over the .223 any day.
