From historical point of view, the discovery of methane is attributed to the chemist, physiologist and family physician Jean Bapiste Van Helmont (1580-1644) and the physician Alexandro Volta (1745-1827). Van Helmont, a Belgian who was born in Brussels on January 12, 1580, recorded in the 17th century a flammable gas from the decomposition of organic matter. Volta, born in 1745 in cone, showed in 1776 that the quantity of gas produced depends on the amount of biodegradable material available in the organic waste. The first scientific research on anaerobic digestion started between 1804 and 1810 with the Britisch physicans and chemists John Dalton (1766-1844), Henry Williams (1774-1836) and Humphry Davy (1778-1829). These three researchers established the chemical composition of methane. In 1868 the French microbiologist, Antoine Bechamp (1816-1908) identified the microorganism responsible for methane production from ethanol. He showed as well that different fermentation products are formed during the digestion process, depending on the type of substrate.

The concept of anaerobic digestion has been introduced around 1870 with the development of the septic tank system. A general consensus attributes the invention of the septic tank to Jean-Louis Mouras, a French engineer who designed this system in 1971 in Vésoul. In 1981, Mouras filed a patent application for an 'odorless automatic draining tank'. However, the first use of biogas as source of energy began in 1895 with the electrification of the streets of Exeter in the United Kingdom. During the 20's Karl Imhoff a German created in Germany a continuous operating two-stage tank system. The system is called the Imhoff tank. In this system, the settling zone of particle's is separated from the digestion zone. A few years later the system was used in several German cities and in other countries. In 30 years nearly hald the sewage treatment plants in North America used the Imhoff tank

Who invented biogas?

Biogas is a type of renewable energy that occurs naturally from the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. The invention of biogas is not attributed to a single individual, as it has been used for centuries in various forms. However, the modern development of biogas technology is often credited to Sir John Royds in England in the late 19th century.

What is biogas used for?

Biogas is primarily used as a renewable energy source for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels in vehicles. Additionally, biogas can be upgraded to biomethane for injection into natural gas pipelines or as a transportation fuel.

How do you use biogas in a sentence?

biogas from landfill waste has been harnessed in sites around in world

Environmental benefits from biogas?

When you run on biogas added no new carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. You can say that the vehicles run on solar energy, which is first bound in green plants, and finally converted into biogas. Biogas are therefore called "carbon neutral". Biogas does not contribute to global warming and climate change. This makes biogas to fuel alternatives today with the least impact on the environment. Biogas is a part of the natural cycle. Biogas is formed during decomposition of organic material in oxygen-free environment. The gas is formed spontaneously in nature in the sumpgas, or controlled in a Sewage digesters. When biogas production, we take to be the waste from the slaughter and food and manure from the farm, ie a kind of recovery. From biogas extraction we also biogödsel replacing chemical fertilizers in agriculture. Since biogas is a renewable energy has an important part of the sustainable society that we must strive to achieve. SRINIVAS KASULLA srinivaskasulla@gmail.com

Where is the world's biggest bio gas plant?

the biggest biogas plant(biogas reserve) in the world where people use the biogas in many uses is situated in methan village in gujarat state of india.moreover, remains of the garbage is used as an excellent biofertilizer.women here use the biogas for smokeless "chulahs" or stove in cooking although it is a bit stinky!

How energy is controlled by biogas?

It isn't. Fuels such as biogas store energy, they don't control it.

How do you calculate the amount of electricity from biogas?

This would entirely depend on how efficient your biogas consuming electrical generator is and what the constituent gases in the biogas are. Biogas can contain between about 50-70% methane. The available energy in the biogas is derived from the calorific value (CV) of methane factored by the concentration of methane in the biogas. If you know the efficiency of the gas engine then you can derive the energy output from the known CV of the biogas input. It is important to select a suitable generator that can run on biogas and will provide suitable warranties when operating on biogas. It may be necessary to consider the impact of contaminant gases such as siloxanes, hydrogen sulphide and moisture in the biogas. It may be appropriate to protect the engine by installing scrubbing systems to clean the gas and remove the contaminants upstream of the engine in order to improve the lifetime of the equipment.

How biogas can supply farmers with energy?

Biogas can supply the farmers with the energy they need because biogas is a flammable gas that help the farmers, biogas supply farmers by the HEAT ENERGY that help the farmers to get the energy they need in planting, like sun biogas give a HEAT ENERGY that what plants needed in heat energy from the SUN.
