Brown hair and brown eyes are of indo-European origin, from white Europeans. Brown hair and eyes and olive-white skin tones were the first mutation to the white race. Africans and Asians have naturally black hair, black-colored eyes (no visible brown at all) and very dark or black skin tones. The only way an African has lighter brown eyes (from dark brown to light brown) or brown hair is if he's mixed with a parent, grandparent or recent ancestor of European origin from both the maternal and paternal sides. An example would be a white mother and a white paternal great grandparent.

NOTE: Having actual knowledge of genetics and anatomy is useful.. "black eyes" are genetically impossible.. as Melanin is what gives ALL skin types (from the palest European to the darkest African), including eyes and hair their color.. Melanin is brown.. the more Melanin, the darker the skin, eyes, or hair. Dark brown eyes may appear to be black, but they are not, they are brown. Also the brown hair and eyes are believed to be originated from Asia, as Asia is where the oldest human ancestor has been found (it was originally thought to be Africa).. not in Europe. If the latest discovery remains to be the oldest human relative, then until something older is found, it leaves to the fact that all other "races" are genetic or evolutionary mutations of that original relative.. not the other way around.

Color of hair and color of eyes are not directly linked. The sets of genes that control them are close to each other in the DNA, so certain combinations tend to be more common, such as blue eyes and blond hair.

BUT, since blue is recessive, you must have two blue-eye genes, one from each parent, to have blue eyes. If you have one blue gene and one brown gene, your eyes will be brown, since brown is dominant.

(By the way, brown and blue are the ONLY pigments in eye color; other colors like hazel, green, black, gray, etc, are differences in the concentration of the pigment.)

Hair color is determined by a bunch of genes, which is why there's so much variation, everything from pale straw color to black. The genes that encode for darker hair tend to be dominant, so if one parent is blond and the other has brown hair, it's more likely the kid will grow up to have brown hair. (Although they may be blond as kids, their mature hair color is almost always darker.) Of course since hair IS determined by so many genes, kids with the same parents can often end up with different genetic combinations, and different colored hair and eyes.

My brother and I are a good example. I am blond and blue-eyed as an adult; my brother has eyes that change color and much darker hair. My father has blue eyes, and since I must have one gene from each parent, my mother must have at least one blue-eyed gene. Her eyes change color too, though, so they could be hazel (less concentrated blue pigment) or green (less concentrated brown pigment). Obviously my brother is the same as my mom genetically, because he MUST have one gene from each parent; again, he automatically gets one blue from my dad, but he got the other gene from mom and it must not have been the concentrated blue gene that I got.

My mother had dark brown hair and my father was blond as a child, and it darkened to brown that bleached in the summer.

Brown hair and brown eyes are common genetic traits that can be found in populations around the world. There is no specific origin for this combination as it is a result of complex genetic inheritance. The genes responsible for determining hair and eye color are influenced by a combination of genetic variations from both parents.

Blond hair and blue eyes are both most commonly found in the populations of northern Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Ireland). The two traits combined are most commonly found in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, Poland and the Netherlands). The combination is not uncommon in the United Kingdom and Ireland, although in these countries blue eyes are also quite normal those with very dark brown / black hair.

Yes, this is fairly common. In fact, as someone who has brown hair and blue eyes, I can tell you from experience that in western countries, such a combination is not unusual. But it should also be noted that in some countries, blue eyes and brown hair are not as common. It depends on your ethnicity and ancestry. Friends of mine who live in China or Africa, for example, are much less likely to have that combination. But in places like the United States, you would certainly encounter many people with brown hair and blue eyes.
