On the morning of February 10, 2011, a mesonet station in Nowata (northeastern part of the state) dropped to 31 below zero, setting a new record for the state. This was due to a perfect set of conditions, including a fresh layer of snow, clear skies, and calm winds, and of course an airmass straight from the Arctic that was centered over this specific area. This record is pending verification from the NCDC. Until then, the record remains:

27 below zero in 1905 at Vinita, and in 1935 at Watts.
