I am not entirely sure, but I think it may have to do with the connecting mass. Tombolos are usually connected by a sandbar, which is more prone to geographical effects and can be more effected by waves and tides. Peninsulas are connected by more "solid" land masses such as solid ground that are not as prone to being shifted around. Also, peninsulas have to be connected to a mainland, whereas tombolos can be connected to other islands as well as a mainland.
The main difference between the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula of Michigan is their geographical location. The Upper Peninsula is located to the north and is less populated with vast wilderness and natural beauty, while the Lower Peninsula is located to the south and is more densely populated with major cities like Detroit and Lansing.
Tombolo's are ridges of sand and shingle which join the mainland to an island. Tombolo's are created through the process of longshore drift. Where there is a change in the shape of the land, a spit forms in the shallow / sheltered water. A tombolo is formed where the spit continues to grow until it reaches an island, forming a link with the mainland
A tombolo is formed when a sand spit or barrier beach connects an island to the mainland. In the case of Burgh Island, sediment is deposited by waves and currents to gradually build up the sand spit, creating the tombolo. Over time, the continuous deposition and redistribution of sediment help to form this landform.
a bay is similar to a gulf. a peninsula is an outcropping of land in the water
Difference is a bit less than 87° of longitude:London, England: 51.507222, -0.1275Cancun, Mexico (easternmost city in the Yucatan Peninsula): 21.160556, -86.8475Difference would be: -86.8475
a tombolo is a spit that joins the mainland to an island
Yes, there is a difference between an isthmus and a tombolo. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger landmasses, while a tombolo is a deposition landform that connects an island to the mainland by a sandy bridge. In essence, an isthmus links two separate landmasses, whereas a tombolo connects an island to a mainland.
A peninsula has an isthmus connecting it to land where a cape doesn't.

The difference between a cape and a peninsula is a peninsula is almost entirely surrounding by water. A cape is an area of land that has just one part that juts into the sea.
A peninsula is surrounded by water on all but one side.
What is a Tombolo?
A bay is a big inlet of the sea and the land curves inward. A peninsula is a piece of land that is surrounded by water and basically projects outward into the water.
An island is land completely surrounded by water. A peninsula is bordered by water on three sides, with one side a connection to another land mass.

A gulf is the water mass that is surrounded by land on three sides, while a peninsula is a land mass that sticks out into the ocean, so is almost completely surrounded by water.
