1 Joule = 1 Newton*meter = 1 kilogram meter2/second2

Also ... the amount of energy moved when it flows at the rate of 1 watt for 1 second.

Also ... the amount of energy dissipated every second when the voltage across

a section of conductor is equal to the reciprocal of the current through it.

"Joule" is a unit of energy, whereas "kilogram" is a unit of mass. The units have different physical

'dimensions', they're used to measure completely different types of quantities, and neither of them

can be converted into the other one. It would be something like trying to convert your age from

years into square inches.

1 joule = 1 Newton metre (it is 1 Newton times 1 meter). The amount of work done by applying 1 Newton force on an object and moving it 1 meter). With a 1 kg mass on Earth 'weighing' 9.8 Newtons, if you elevate this mass 1 meter above the floor, it will have 9.8 Joules (9.8 Newton meters) of potential energy, and you did 9.8 Joules of work to raise it that high (neglecting frictional forces).

The joule is the unit of energy in the SI. It is defined as the energy (or work) equivalent to a force of 1 newton acting over a distance of 1 meter.A joule is also equal to 1 watt-second (since watt is joules/second). So, if a device uses a power of "x" watts, during "y" seconds, it will use a total of "xy" joules.

Since it is equal to 1 watt-second, a joule is also equal to 1/3,600,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is the unit used by power companies to charge you.
