As well as being the system used in most countries around the world, as well as in most professions, the metric system is simple to use as it has a single set of base units to which prefixes can be added to increase the value in multiples of ten. For example, the base unit of length is the metre; a centimetre is one hundredth of metre and a kilometre is one thousand metres. The same prefixes are used for all metric units (so a kilogram is one thousand grams).

∙ 16y agoOne advantage of using the metric system is its simplicity and ease of conversion between units as it is based on powers of 10. This makes calculations and measurements more straightforward compared to systems with different conversion factors for each unit.

∙ 16y agoThe main advantage of the metric system is that it is very logical. One example that illustrates this is water.
1 litre of water weighs 1kg
1 metric tonne (1000kg) of water will take up the volume of approximately one cubic meter
Water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C
These simple concepts make metric calculation very easy.

∙ 6y agoIt is not really important or necessary; however in the world of science and measurement it is helpful, as it uses units of ten.

It's not necessary in a strictly arithmetical sense but the metric, or more importantly its SI derivative, IS "really important", because it is now the ONLY officially and internationally-recognised system for science, engineering and commerce. America is the only major nation not to have adopted it generally, except in science.

∙ 10y agoThe metric system is a useful tool because a decimal system of units is based on the meter as a unit length, the kilogram as a unit mass, and the second as a unit time. Also metric system can become useful because it is easier then the customary system. This is why metric system is a useful tool.

One advantage of not using the metric system is that there may be less of a need to adjust to global standards, which can reduce the cost and effort of transitioning to a new system. Additionally, traditional systems of measurement may have greater familiarity and cultural significance for the population.
One half of a gram is equal to 0.5 grams in the metric system.
Volume is measured in the metric system using liters (L) or milliliters (mL). One liter is equal to 1000 milliliters.
There are many different occasions when a person would want to measure the temperature using the metric system. For example, if a friend from the UK wanted to know the temperature at one's house in Wisconsin, it would be polite to convert the temperature to Celsius so that it makes sense to one's friend.
In the US metric system, a kilometer is equivalent to 0.6214 miles.

The United States of America is one of the few nations who have not adopted the metric system.

There is basically ONE metric system currently used worldwide. It is called the SI. All countries that use "the metric system" are really using the SI. Other metric systems were used in the past, but they are not commonly used in any country.
There is only one metric system. Centimetre.
The whole point of the metric system is that it is a universal system, so that one metre in one country is the same as one metre in every other country. The metric system is the same everywhere.
Metric measurements are based upon 10. It is as easy as using money: everyone knows that 100 Cents is 1 Dollar. The US uses Mile-Yard-Feet and you have to know what to mulitply to convert from one to the other.

for this answer: in the metric system what is the prefix for 1/100?ANSWER: centi-AtL 2009
There is only one metric system. The relevant units, within that system would be millimetres.
There are two main metric systems: the International System of Units (SI) and the older metric system known as the CGS system. The two systems differ in the choice of base units and their prefixes. The SI system is more modern and comprehensive, incorporating scientific advances and global standardization.
