It means the atmosphere was sufficiently unstable to support strong convection, manifesting itself as a thunderstorm. What else could it mean?

Your wedding day was someone else's funeral, another person's graduation, another person's car accident, and just another day for another 60 million people who experienced a thunderstorm that day.

A thunderstorm happens like This:

Water is formed through the water cycle (Precipitation, evaporation, Then condensation, only to go back to precipitation).

Lightning isn't really known how it is made though scientists believe that the bottom of the cloud produces a negative charge and the top a positive charge.

I'd have to guess that it means that the charges in the clouds created an electrical charge creating the lightning and the natural water cycle went into the stage of precipitation.

Thunderstorms have no spiritual meaning in most traditional religions. Perhaps for Native Americans it it would mean a sign of the Great Spirit's power to destroy and renew the land. Otherwise, Thunderstorms have little spiritual meaning in most people's lives.
