The earth takes 365.25 days to go once completely round the sun, therefore 365 days is one year. The .25 days is carried over, and once every four years we have a leap year, 366 days.

The earth always circles around the sun, called a revolution. What causes years is the full orbit of the earth around the sun, which is about 365.25 days.

The length of the day and night varies depending on the tilt of the Earth's axis as it orbits the sun. During summer solstice, the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, resulting in longer days and shorter nights. During winter solstice, the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, causing shorter days and longer nights.

Distance of the Sun from the earth increases as winter approaches causing the days to shorten and longer nights.

similarly the distance decreases during the summer months, days are longer and nights are shorter.

I believe this phenomenon is called Apogee and Perigee.

The length of the year does not change to any significant degree. Any change would not be perceptible to anyone over their lifetime or over several peoples lifetimes. Always excepting leap years of course.

What is the difference between the length of daylight in the summer verses in the winter?

In the summer, days are longer with more daylight hours due to the Earth's tilt towards the sun. This results in shorter nights. In the winter, days are shorter with fewer daylight hours because of the Earth's tilt away from the sun, leading to longer nights.
