It is believed that sea water permeated numerous cracks and fissures and reacted with magma deep within the bowels of the volcano. this caused a massive buildup of pressure which was released in the catastrophic eruption of 1815 which claimed an estimated 92,000 lives and measured 7 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI), making it the most powerful and the deadliest eruption ever recorded in the world.

β 13y agoOn October 26st 2010 Indonesian volcano Mount Merapi began erupting. Since that day it has erupted three times and has thrown millions of tonnes of ash and debris high into the sky. More than 100 people have been killed as a result of the eruption and many more have been injured. 70.000 People in the near viscinity of Mount Merapi have been evacuated .It has a timeline full of volcanic activity, and it has claimed many lives over the centuries.
